Don, it looks great! We’ve been real busy with our “day jobs” this week, so haven’t taken the time to reply. We are really impressed with the work that’s been done – and would love to be a part of this if we can (Manassas is outside the area – just a bit)
Hope to talk to you soon!
Do you have festivals that last 2 or 3 days? When in 2011?
This may be good for someone as it seems to be a commercial venture with the valley’s music in order to line a few pockets. I doubt that it will do much at all for local musicians.
You may want to include this band in one of your venues. They are great! They play old-time mountain music, bluegrass gospel, Carter Family tunes, etc. Let me know what
you think! They play regularly at venues thru-out the valley, BRP and Skyline Drive.

Jim Lilly – guitar
Betty Calvert – bass

The Shenandoah Valley Mountain Music Makers Association is an IRS 501(c)(3) all-volunteer, non-profit public trust corporation with a mission to preserve, celebrate, and promote the great Mountain Music Traditions of the Shenandoah Valley. To this end we receive funding from the Virginia Commission for the Arts, Virginia Tourism Corporation, and Private/Corporate donations. We are membership based to support our efforts and continue to provide funding for the Roger Farris Memorial Scholarship Fund, to provide financial assistance for the development of new musicians by linking them with master musicians for further instruction. We welcome your membership and an opportunity for you to volunteer your time and services to accomplishing our mission. Our mission statement includes: “We are dedicated to preserving, promoting and maintaining the integrity and roots of the Shenandoah Valley’s Mountain Music Making traditions and its various configurations including: bluegrass, old-time string band, American fiddle/banjo traditions, Appalachian folk songs, blues, shape-note and gospel, and traditional country music.” Hope this helps… Looking forward to seeing you along the Music Trail.
